Skills Programmes

Skills programmes offer ETD practitioners the opportunity to really master the skills required for their different roles. A skills programme consists of several unit standards covering a specific function of an ETD practitioner.

By doing a skills programme you willl master the required skills, get an in-depth understanding of the principles and procedures and at the same time gather credits towards your OD ETD Practices qualification.

Skills Development Facilitator Full Course

A Skills Programme based on seven unit standards designed for SDFs 

For inexperienced SDFs we offer a comprehensive Mastering Skills Development Facilitation Programme done in three modules over a period of six weeks. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the skills development environment, including outcomes-based education and training and quality assurance matters. This training is available as an in-house course for organisations or sectors only.

 Who should be trained as an SDF?

This course is meant for those perons who have been working as SDF's for less than a year and thus have not gone though the entire process.  We will assist you to understand the principles and theory and to present your evidence of competence for assessment purposes.

What entry qualification is needed?

We recommend that persons doing these courses have a post matric qualification and understand the training enviroment.  HR and HRD practitioners will be ideally suited.

How long does it take?

The course consists of three modules running over a total of six weeks.  The learner SDF will attend a module of four days every second week.

What material is supplied?

Each participant receives comprehensive reference material for each unit standard as well as a workbook, evidence guides and assessment instruments.

Workshop outcome

 Our course meets all the outcomes required by the seven unit standards.  It also provides you with insight into:

  • the NQF system and the Skills Development Act
  • assessment implementation and procedures
  • evidence of competence as an SDF
  • recognition of prior learning implementation for experiences SDF's
  • portfolio presentation for assessment
  • RPL and summative assessments
  • endorsement of the certificate of competence.

Workshop methodology

You are required to participate fully in group and individual learning activities throughout the workshop.  You will be encouraged to identify and express your specific learning needs and to contribute to the pool of knowledge from your own experience.  The workshop includes a coaching role play.

 Assessment

During the workshop and the weeks in between learners will prepare a portfolio of evidence, based on their own organisation, to submit for assessment against the unit standards.  As soon as you are found competent, and once the Assessment College has received endorsement from the ETDP SETA, it will issue the necessary certificate.  This will prove competence and can be used as evidence for registration with your relevant SETA.

RPL Skills Development Facilitator Course

This is a five-day RPL assessment workshop covering all of the seven unit standards for those who have more than one year of experience in SDF work. 

We train on seven unit standards on NQF levels 4-6 with a total of 39 credits. The seven unit standards are:

  • 15221 – Provide information and advice regarding skills development and related issues
  • 15218 – Conduct an analysis to determine outcomes of learning for skills development
  • 15217 – Develop an organisation and training development plan
  • 15228 – Advise on the establishment and implementation of a quality management system for skills development practices in an organisation

Complete our SDF skills programme and achieve unit standards leading towards ODETDP qualifications. We structured our SDF skills programme in such a manner that you can claim credits for occupationally directed unit standards at the same time.

Master Outcomes-based Assessment

Our Master Outcomes-based Assessment  Skills Programme is the ideal course for quality assessors, moderators and designers.  It consists of a cluster of four unit standards structured into three workshops.  The total credits carried in theis course is 39.  We recommend that the three workshops be spread over a period of three months

Master QMS Implementation

Our Master QMS Implementation Skills Programme is based on unit standard 8054: Manage and implement quality assurance systems, NQF level 4 with 8 credits.

THe course is divided into three modules that will run over a period of about 12 weeks. During this time learners will develop their own organisation's quality management system (QMS).

The three contact sessions of three days each, build the learners' skills in a progressive manner. It also assist learners to deal with difficulties they encounter throughout the process and is aimed at real-life problem solving.

When doing this programme you will truly master:

  • selecting the most appropriate quality assurance methodology
  • designing and developing policies and procedures which constitute the quality management/assurance system
  • implementing appropriate steps to ensure participation and support of the system
  • evaluating and monitoring the system and make amendments to ensure continual improvement.

Knowledge and Theory of the QMS

  • an introduction to
  • quality management in ETD
  • the concepts of policy, process and procedure
  • the process of establishing a quality management system for ETD in an organisation
  • quality management concepts in accordance with the QA requirements
  • participate in a team to do process mapping
  • formulate the policy statements that flow from process mapping

The home study phase which follows this module is used to develop the scope, objectives and process maps and to define the policies

Implementation of Policies and Procedures

(3 days)

  •  formulation of procedures of the QM manual
  • implementation of a quality management system in the ETD organisation
  • document control
  • formulate procedures derived from the policies which adhere to the processes mapped
  • see the complete QMS development process in synthesis
  • design an implementation strategy
  • formulate plans to execute the strategy

This is followed by another home phase during which the procedures will be formulated

Maintenance of the QMS

(3 days)

  • evaluation, corrective actions and reinforcement through internal audit
  • design and develop audit templates
  • design and institute procedures and instruments to monitor the continued implementation, maintenance and improvement of the QM manual

During the last home phase the implementation plans will be formulated and the portfolios of evidence will be finalised and submitted for assessment.
